When Kathy Holmes dreams, she envisions outstanding performances during dressage competitions with her Holsteiner mare, Zambia. She also thinks of quiet times spent riding throughout Vermont’s breathtaking countryside with her favorite horse and trusted companion.
Trust is key in horseback riding, performances or competitions; horse and rider must believe in and count on each other to flawlessly execute difficult moves. Kathy knows to accomplish the perfect move, she has to trust that Zambia will gracefully and skillfully respond to the direction given. Horse and rider become one at this moment. What a feeling it is to master the maneuver and take home the blue ribbon.
Never Give Up The Dream
Born and raised in New Jersey, Kathy was just like many young girls who dreamt of owning a horse. When she moved to Vermont in 1973 to attend college as an art student, she was drawn to the beauty and quality of life of her adopted state. Kathy knew when her son, Tyler, was born that she didn't want to raise him anywhere else. She has lived in Vermont ever since and realized her dream of owning a horse when she bought Boca several years ago. Riding and competing re-engerize Kathy on a personal level, which in turn keeps her refreshed and enthusiastic about her real estate career.
Living The Local Lifestyle
Kathy and her husband, Russell, have immersed themselves in the lifestyle and splendor of the Greater Burlington area. He is a chef and partner of Creative Catering out of the Grand Isle Lake House in the islands. This is a historic property that has been donated to and renovated by the Vermont Preservation Trust, as a “special events” facility. Situated on a peninsula jutting out into Lake Champlain and taking in the surrounding beauty of the lake and the Green Mountains it is a very special place to hold a wedding or reunion or retreat.

Most importantly, in her work helping home or land buyers and sellers to their dreams, Kathy stresses that trust, again, is the key. Aware of the anticipation she felt when jumping her horse and still feels when asking her horse for that difficult dressage step, Kathy likens the intricate process of buying or selling a home to taking that leap.
